a catalogue of my professional work

Corey Dangel has been an Art Director for 15 years. He spent the last four years establishing the visual direction for The Agency, a critically anticipated title for PC and PS3. Prior to SOE, Corey spent nearly a dozen years living the life of an elite art director in the games division of Microsoft. Focused principally on online games, Corey spent his first tour of duty working on several groundbreaking titles including the Internet Gaming Zone, Fighter Ace, and Asherons Call. A two-year hiatus sent Corey to Cavedog/Humongous Entertainment where he helped bring the Total Annihilation franchise to the online world. A return to Microsoft had him working on a variety of PC and Xbox games, most notably Dungeon Siege, Psychonauts, and Mythica. Corey attended Western Washington University, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Visual Communication. Outside of work, Corey pretends to be a rock star in his circularly referential band, AgentC. He makes a fine martini, too.

I’ve been an Art Director in the games industry for almost 15 years. During that time I have led large and small teams of diverse creative talents including concept artists, illustrators, animators, character modelers, environment artists, graphic designers, cinematic directors, special effects artists, flash artists, lighters, and game designers. I bring a strong graphic point of view to my art direction, but I can adjust my style to fit any target audience and I always strive to create and direct art that supports game play.

My job is to marshal many individual artists toward a shared vision, not crush them under my will. So I work closely with individuals to bring out their best effort. While I am incredibly passionate about my work I am very easy to work with. I strive to inspire excellence in my team by being decisive, organized, agile, and a good collaborator.

I’m also bold enough to think that an art director from the games industry can add value to companies in other fields such as advertising and marketing. At Microsoft I produced assets for and consulted on several advertising and marketing programs, developing brands for the Internet Gaming Zone, Microsoft Game Studios, and support materials for dozens of games. At Sony I played a substantial role in developing the IP for the Agency, creating elements to work both in and out of the game that were ripe for marketing and productization efforts.

You’ve read this much, so hopefully you are intrigued. If so, then I’d love to meet and talk about how I might fit in with your company.

Thank you for your time,

-cd
